Luggage rides on the roof of the safari vehicle, so a soft, lockable, waterproof bag beats a suitcase every time.
On the inbound flight, checked luggage sometimes arrives after you do. Anything you cannot do without on day one — medication above all — goes in your hand luggage.
Clothes. Sun hat or cap · t-shirts · long-sleeved shirts · light cotton shorts · at least two pairs of long trousers · sandals or flip-flops · swimsuit for the lodges · a warm scarf, because evenings get cold · a jacket suited to safari · hiking or walking shoes. Sportswear if you are walking; a sports bra is worth packing for the rougher tracks.
Kit. Camera and video gear · memory cards and spare batteries · a torch or headlamp with spares · padlocks · sunglasses · sun block and lip balm · wet wipes and hand sanitiser · toiletries · a small pocket knife · a neck pouch or fanny pack · something to read · your passport, visa, tickets, money and itinerary.
If you wear contact lenses, bring glasses too — a safari is dusty and lenses dry out fast.
On the Camping tier all camping gear is provided; you do not need to bring any of it.
